Customizing Your Resume with AI — A Career Profile Approach

For those looking to use AI on their resume without the bloat, generic filler, or hallucinated facts — here's the approach I'm using. It starts with a ground-truth document.

For those looking to customize their resume with AI while avoiding unnecessary bloat, generic filler, or inaccuracies, I want to share my current approach: a Career Profile document.

After experimenting with various methods to streamline the application process, I discovered that starting with a “ground truth document” — a detailed version of your best resume — combined with a sample of your natural writing style (such as a previous cover letter) and a few prompts to a premium LLM (Claude Opus 4.7 at maximum thinking in my case) can be highly effective.

By clearly explaining the basic ground rules — such as not making up or extrapolating from the ground-truth document — this method can create a Career Profile document to use as a starting point for future AI resume tweaks.

Check out the attached. It is what I am currently using.

Also, I am still looking, so don’t hesitate to forward any job leads that might be a good fit.

Best, Bob
