Finance Business Partner ยท Data Tech Track

Bob Rougeaux

20+ years of finance and accounting experience, with a consistent data tech track running alongside it the entire way โ€” Oracle ERP, Domo, Alteryx, SQL, Python, Claude Code.

About me

Finance and accounting for 20+ years, with a data tech track running alongside it the entire way. The track started with ProClarity and MDX in 2008, then Tableau (v4, 2009), then Alteryx (v10, 2016), and most recently SQL, Python, AWS, and Claude Code.

That combination has played out in PE-backed transformation (Lacerta, food packaging), Fortune 100 divisional finance (World Fuel Services, oil and gas), and Fortune 500 divisional controllership (Global Partners). The through-line: the accounting foundation is what makes the analytics trustworthy.

I enjoy sharing what I know, and I am always interested in learning from others. If you would like to connect:

Work experience

Sr. Manager, Commercial Finance
Lacerta Group, LLC, Mansfield, MA
2021 - 2026

  • High-growth food packaging manufacturer; portfolio company of S.K. Capital Partners.
  • Stood up the company's Domo BI environment from scratch โ€” with consultants initially, then took the architect-and-owner role. Unified QuickBooks on-prem, E2 (job-shop manufacturing), and Delmia Works (Oracle Cloud) into a single reporting layer.
  • Designed and built a self-service quoting application using Claude Code as a development partner. Cut quote turnaround to under 48 hours and standardized pricing across the sales force.
  • Implemented a tracking process for a $10MM+ annual customer rebate program โ€” captured pricing leakage and surfaced true net-of-rebate customer profitability.
  • Built customer- and product-level reporting for price-volume-mix drivers and contribution margin.
  • Owned the annual sales plan, quarterly reforecasts, and scenario models presented to senior leadership and the PE sponsor.
  • Built a web-scraping pipeline for market and competitor intelligence; integrated third-party market and freight-vendor data streams into Domo.

Sr. Finance Director, Finance Business Partner โ€” Central N.A. Land
World Fuel Services, Inc., Boston, MA & Overland Park, KS
2018 - 2020

  • Fortune 100 global oil and gas distribution organization (NYSE: INT). Owned finance for the largest of three divisions in the N.A. Land segment โ€” ~$1B revenue across Retail, Wholesale, and Commercial channels, two blending plants, and the company-owned distribution fleet.
  • Built out the divisional finance team โ€” three financial analysts in a flat structure.
  • Owned the long-range plan, annual operating and capital budgets, monthly forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Led development of annual and long-range sales plans across the three channels.
  • Finance representative on the dealer financing committee โ€” vetted ROI on ~$20M of new capital extended per year.
  • Contributor to multiple cross-functional and worldwide system and process improvement teams.

Divisional Controller โ€” Inventory & Operational Accounting
Global Partners LP, Waltham, MA
2013 - 2018

  • Fortune 500 midstream oil and gas MLP (NYSE: GLP). Progressed through three roles in the same five-year span: Financial Systems Process Manager (PMO) โ†’ Asst. Divisional Controller โ†’ Divisional Controller (Inventory & Operational Accounting โ€” Terminals).
  • Reconciliation accuracy of 3.5M barrels of inventory across 30+ physical and in-transit locations.
  • $840K tax recapture: identified an incorrect harbor maintenance tax calculation; included in the company's 2013 Q3 restatement of earnings.
  • 40% headcount reduction in the inventory department through systems, staffing, and process changes โ€” while improving GAAP accuracy.
  • Oracle Project Costing module implementation (AFE projects) โ€” end-to-end.
  • VBA-automated daily hedged-inventory and mark-to-market reporting (replaced hand-keyed paper reports).
  • PMO for the SAP BPC reporting and consolidation software implementation.
  • Monthly plant P&L packages, cross-location benchmarking, and system-wide inventory gain/loss review with C-level and senior operational leadership.

Senior Operational Accountant
Euro-Pro Operating Co. (now SharkNinja, LLC), Newton, MA
2012 - 2013

  • $1B+ private consumer products company; designer of the Shark and Ninja brands. Asset-light, contract-manufactured model.
  • All aspects of inventory accounting, including yearly and periodic site counts at company-owned and 3PL warehouses across North America.
  • Business lead on a new BOM module in the legacy accounting system.
  • Gross-margin bridges and monthly driver analysis for COGS and freight.
  • FAS fixed-asset software implementation โ€” migrated company-owned injection molds worldwide out of Excel into the new system.

Earlier on

Before the roles above, the finance and accounting career started in 1998. The data tech track joined a decade later โ€” ProClarity and MDX in 2008, Tableau v4 in 2009, Alteryx v10 in 2016 โ€” and every reporting environment I've built since has lived inside a finance role, not outside it.

Bob, circa 1998.

Reading List

A brief list of books that have added value to my professional life. Enjoy!

Good Strategy, Bad Strategy (Richard Rumelt)

A sober takedown of "strategy" as empty sloganeering. Rumelt forces you to name the real problem before claiming you have a plan for it.

Inner Game of Tennis (W. Timothy Gallwey)

Not just about how to improve your Tennis game!

Man's Search for Meaning (Victor E. Frankl)

A reminder that your worst work day is nothing compared to what some have endured and lived to tell about it. A powerful true story account of how your mental state (and a lot of luck) can help you overcome the worst of what this world can throw your way.

Only the Paranoid Survive (Andy Grove)

A reminder and a must read for any executive who thinks success is made at the top of the organization.

Presence (Amy Cuddy)

A must read for when you are looking to make a mark in your next role.

Selected Projects

Where strategic financial leadership meets hands-on systems work. Each of these shipped, with measurable outcomes.

Project 1:
Domo BI Implementation & Self-Service Quoting App

Context:

Lacerta Group (PE-backed, S.K. Capital). Finance, planning, and sales ops lacked a unified reporting layer; CEO and CFO were triangulating across spreadsheets. Source systems were QuickBooks on-prem, E2 (job-shop manufacturing), and Delmia Works (Oracle Cloud).

What I built:

Led the Domo BI rollout end-to-end โ€” architecture, data model, CEO/CFO executive dashboards, source-system integration, and a self-service quoting app built with Claude Code as a development partner.

Outcome:

Real-time visibility for the executive team, quote turnaround cut to under 48 hours, and a BI foundation the sales and operations teams continue to build on. Day-to-day ownership migrated to IT once the platform was stable.

Project 2:
$10MM+ Customer Rebate Program Tracking

Context:

Lacerta Group. A $10MM+ annual customer rebate program had grown without a structured tracking layer โ€” leakage was hard to spot and true net-of-rebate customer profitability was invisible at the account level.

What I built:

Designed and implemented a tracking process for the rebate program inside the Domo environment โ€” pricing leakage captured, accruals reconciled, and customer profitability surfaced net of rebates.

Outcome:

True net-of-rebate margin visibility per customer, structured accrual cadence, and a clearer view of which accounts were actually profitable once rebate economics were applied.

Project 3:
Channel Mix & Pricing Strategy ($1B Segment)

Context:

World Fuel Services (Fortune 100, NYSE: INT). Owned finance for a ~$1B revenue division โ€” largest of three in the N.A. Land segment โ€” spanning Retail, Wholesale, and Commercial channels with distinct pricing dynamics.

What I built:

A channel-mix and format-expansion framework that tied price, volume, and mix analysis to strategic pricing decisions โ€” reviewed monthly with senior leadership.

Outcome:

Clearer revenue attribution across channels, informed format-expansion decisions, and a repeatable process for evaluating pricing changes against mix shifts.

Project 4:
Inventory Operations Transformation (-40% Headcount)

Context:

Global Partners LP (Fortune 500). The inventory accounting function reconciled 3.5M barrels across 30+ physical and in-transit locations โ€” historically resource-heavy and prone to month-end churn.

What I built:

Re-engineered the inventory accounting department โ€” systems work (VBA-automated daily hedged-inventory and mark-to-market reporting), staffing changes, and process redesign for reconciliations and month-end close.

Outcome:

40% headcount reduction in the inventory department while improving GAAP accuracy. Faster, cleaner close cycle without losing reconciliation discipline.

Project 5:
Oracle Project Costing (AFE) Module Implementation

Context:

Global Partners LP. Capital expenditure approval and tracking needed a formal system of record tied to the ERP โ€” replacing a patchwork of memos, spreadsheets, and email chains.

What I built:

Led the end-to-end deployment of the Oracle Project Costing module for AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) projects โ€” requirements, configuration, data migration, rollout, and training for stakeholders across finance and operations.

Outcome:

Traceable capex approval workflow across 30+ operating sites, tied directly to the ERP. The same review discipline contributed to surfacing the $840K harbor maintenance tax recapture opportunity.

Project 6:
ClaudeCodeConfigurator (Open Source)

Context:

Setting up Claude Code well for a new project โ€” CLAUDE.md, hooks, subagents, skills, MCP configuration โ€” is a lot of moving parts. Most users either skip the setup or copy-paste from a colleague's project.

What I built:

A public, MIT-licensed Python CLI on GitHub. Scaffolds Claude Code projects from an interactive intake: CLAUDE.md, .claude/settings.json, safety hooks (block dangerous bash, scan for secrets), subagents, skills, and optional .mcp.json. Includes token-efficiency presets and a modular template system.

Outcome:

Released and actively maintained at github.com/tigers1997/ClaudeCodeConfigurator. Lowers the on-ramp for finance and analytics teams trying Claude Code without an engineering background.
